Loving Gluten Free

Many people I have come across are of the opinion that needing to eat gluten free is ‘just a fad’ or something that is a trend. The Australian Coeliac Association website states that “Coeliac disease affects an average of 1 in 70 Australians. However, around 80% remain undiagnosed…in recent years…there has also been a true increase in the incidence of Coeliac Disease.” It also states, along with other medical evidence that “[a] strict gluten free diet is the only medical treatment for Coeliac Disease. Removing gluten from the diet enables your gut to heal and your symptoms to improve”. For anyone who is affected by gluten, the consequences of accidentally being ‘glutened’ can last days and sometimes weeks. It is not a pleasant experience to say the least…

FoodLovers has a great many products that are naturally gluten free including jams, pickles, chutneys, sauces, dessert sauces and mustards – these condiments have never contained any gluten. This is because foods that are made from fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, nuts and legumes, milk, fats and oils and gluten free flours (e.g. rice, maize, potato, coconut, besan, etc) are all gluten free. All of the items made in the FoodLovers kitchen are gluten free. This means that the big four – wheat, barley, rye and oats (and any products that are derived from these grains e.g. glucose) – are never in the kitchen. By excluding these products, there is absolutely no possibility of cross-contamination which can also cause illness.

The gluten free journey started at FoodLovers in 2014 when Nancy was advised she needed to follow a gluten free diet after some extensive testing. She understands the need to eat safely, but to also have food that tastes exciting and that is nutritious. While no one should have treats everyday, it’s important to have some little sweet treats occasionally. So in 2017, after a trip to France, the FoodLovers Gluten Free Patisserie started. It’s only small, but products in the fridge are perfected over time and with lots of people trying them and providing feedback. We now make tart shells (filled with lactose free custard and fruit or lemon meringue or caramel), vanilla slice, choux pastry (chocolate eclairs or custard puffs), lamingtons, lemon polenta cake, madeleines and a wide variety of biscuits.

If you need something to create, enhance or finish a meal, FoodLovers is the place to look. Whether you are gluten-free or not, FoodLovers will not disappoint.
